With all crypto discords out there, please make sure to follow the basic steps for keeping your discord account and crypto safe.

Add 2 Factor Authentication

  • Many discord servers were hacked recently, just because they didn't had the basic 2 factor authentication setup.
  • It takes 10 mins, please follow the article Discord 2FA and enable it.

Disable direct messages

  • First item to do when you join a new server is to disable direct messages or disable for all severs in profile settings.
  • With this setting, a person has to send a friend request before they can send you a message. This also stops all the DM spams on crypto servers.
  • Go to Setting > Privacy & Safety > Make sure to DISABLE “Allow direct messages from server members”.
  • You can also do this on a particular server from the top left dropdown > privacy settings popup.
  • Some servers may require response to bots in DMs that could stop working. For that you can enable this setting, finish your task and disable it again.

Make sure check actual Discord ID and server roles

  • Scammers try to impersonate others by setting the same visible or nick name.
  • The only way to identify a user is by checking their discord ID which you can see by clicking their name
  • A Impersonator can duplicate the picture and nickname but they cannot copy the discord ID/handle and Roles on a server(e.g. Mod)
  • Discord ID/handle are usually some name followed by numbers
    “ABCD # XXXX”

Never share your seed phrase

  • And this is basic but has to be said again and again
  • NEVER SHARE OR ENTER YOUR SEED PHRASE ON LINKS / DM’s
  • The only time you ever enter seed phrase is when you set up your metamask/ wallet on a new machine that’s it.

Thanks for reading.
